Do both.

Start a Roth IRA in a low cost S&amp;P Index fund (Vanguard, Fidelity, or T Rowe Price).  That&#039;s not as exciting as picking your own stocks and trading them, but it&#039;s a solid foundation to start.  After you&#039;ve got about $10k in that then branch out to small caps or sector funds.</description>
